We have finally heard about some much needed updates to maps within iOS 6, and iPhone users have some major improvements on the way when the new OS releases. Here are some highlights for the new iOS 6 and maps, although look out for an official video detailing the full features within the next couple of days.
Highlights for maps in iOS 6:
- Entire new mapping solution from the ground up
- Apple is building a traffic service with traffic slowdowns and icons showing construction, accidents, etc. This information will come in real-time from anonymous iOS users.
- Turn-by-turn navigation is now built-in and they can be seen from your lock screen.
- Navigation is also integrated with Siri, so you can ask where to get gas or find something on the way.
- 3D cities that are looking better than what Google announced last week, and it looks really smooth to zoom in, out, and rotate.
